We got to know Dave well due to him being on Mark Sainsbury’s radio show. He was truly a distinguished gentleman and a scholar. We were told he had Ph.D in English literature. I would have rather heard him teaching us about that than about cars which after all are only a thing to get you from A to B. Literature gets you everywhere. He was a closet member of the Professional Order of English Majors (POEM) ah la Garrison Keillor.
