Sooo… what attempts have been made to justify the expenses again? ….. sounds like enough of a scandal without all the urine?

lilith7, does that apply for everyone? On July 18, you posted “Mommabear – its customary when lifting articles from elsewhere to credit the source.” And do you personally follow adages you copy and paste? August 16, your post 1691607 “If you don’t have anything nice to say, come sit by me” and “Never throw mud: you can miss the target, but your hands will remain dirty”

Do you seriously not understand that those were quotes from Dorothy Parker – you will no doubt have heard of her – which I posted in the Thought for today thread over in the current events forum? And that her name was very clearly displayed under those comments?

(Which you can see if you care to check.)

And as you know from past experience yes I do indeed tend to post links & information to back up various views.

As for following the adages I post – like most of us,it depends entirely on the adage.

I understand that you enjoy getting in little digs at some of us including me,but on this occasion you seem somewhat confused about things, since I did clearly credit the source.

It seems that USA authorities have been forcibly drugging some of the migrant children removed from their parents, but have now been made to stop the practice. Its hard to believe that this could be allowed to happen;perhaps its an indication of how badly these people are being treated that someone thought it was perfectly fine to drug their children without their knowledge or consent.

    It doesn’t seem very democratic.

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/aug/01/judge-california-psychotropic-medication-border

“A federal judge in California has ruled that the government may not administer psychotropic medication to migrant children in residential centers without first obtaining a court order or consent from a parent or guardian.

The decision relates to a suit alleging that children under the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) were routinely given anti-anxiety and antidepressant drugs, sometimes by force, after being separated from their parents at the southern border.

The court ruled that the medicating, forced or not, was in violation of Texas child welfare law, which requires parental consent before providing psychotropic medication unless it is administered in a situation of medical emergency “to prevent the imminent probability of death or substantial bodily harm to the child or others”.

I see Simon Bridges is welcoming the resurrection of the TOP party, possibly as a future partner, but more in the hope they will remove the Greens from parliament by taking a share of their vote and sending them below 5%.

It will be interesting to see if National will ditch ACT which don’t get enough support to bring in any coat tail MPs (which we know was John Key’s hope from the teapot tapes) and will switch to TOP who, based on the last election results, would bring in one or possibly two coat tail MPs. They might even give them Epsom to seal the deal.

It was generally thought before the last election that TOP was too left wing for National but I see Simon is now calling them a Centrist party. (Seems desperate times give rise to desperate measures) If National ditch ACT and go with TOP will this be a further move to the left by National?

    Cheers 🙂

Actually Hero, I would suggest that there is method in Bridges’ notion. The Left Wing is getting rather crowded. Including another Start-up Centre-Left party could dilute the votes from NZF and Green Party leaving Right Wing voters no where to go except ACT.

    Time will tell    🙂

    That is an interesting thought.
Are you saying the Simon Bridges is taking National to the left of centre?

    Cheers 🙂

An apparent anonymous confession from a National MP saying they leaked the expenses because they thought Simon was arrogant but asking the investigation be scrapped as they have mental health problems.

Sounds like it might be genuine as they quote discussions from the National party caucus meetings.

I wonder if it will be scrapped or will Simon want to know who it is.

    Cheers 🙂

Update Hero, according to the latest information in NZ Herald, the Police have informed Bridges they have identified the leak and the person is getting the support needed.

    Quote

“”On Sunday evening police contacted me. They knew and had worked out the identity of the person concerned. They made clear the person was getting the help they needed.”

Hero, where is Centre? Therefore how can I answer the question about whether Bridges is moving National Left of Centre?

There are those who would argue that National is really “Labour Light”. They have claimed the ground held by Helen’s government. There is also the argument that Labour has moved further to the Left. Therefore we can assume that National still commands the Centrist position but our society has moved more to the Left than previous.

    Cheers   🙂
