What is also pertinent to this discussion is that Australian banks export around 4 billion dollars a year, about the equivalent of our debt. So anyone using Australian banks is helping to inflate our indebtaness. It is not the government causing our debt, it is the citizens. What happened in the past is history and bears no relavence to our present situation.

Hero, enrolling to vote is a legal requirement of all citizens and permanent residents IOW, it is compulsory. There is a fine if one is found not to be enrolled. Unfortunately, it is rarely prosecuted.

    Voting is not compulsory.

Doogie, you may think the past has no relevance to the present. I beg to differ.

ThOse who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it.

Those US neo-Nazis are a prime example.

    arandar,

    You say;

Doogie, you may think the past has no relevance to the present. I beg to differ.

I don’t follow you with this. What are you refering to? Remember what I said about reading into things that are simpley not there?

    Doogie,

It’s becoming clear we don’t follow each other.

You make a statement. I question or respond to it. You say I’m reading into it what’s not there. I am left wondering what IS there that I’m missing.

I expect I simply lack the intellectual grunt to understand.

Don you have totally lost me with your reasoning …Australia exporting 4 billion is much much less than three TRILLION of PUBLIC debt …

Any private person using the Australian banks are creating a personal PRIVATE debt …ie different economy and nothing at all to do with our public debt whose responsibility belongs to ALL citizens in NZ.

I assure you the past and its lessons to learn from is highly relevant as it gives you historical lessons to learn from and dont REPEAT the mistakes LATTER …

Lessons such as NZers realized in the late 19th century it was a bad bad mistake to allow overseas owners to own our land. It was the then Liberal Seddon govt which turned this around and encouraged overseas owners to sell up and get out of NZ.

After this the Seddons govt sold this land cheap( plus offering cheap govt establishment loans) to settlers such as my dad and YEAP I have no doubt Englishs family as well (it was possibly his grandad) and thus started his family ownership of land in Dipton.

By the way Don the National party was formed by the remnants of the Liberal /Reform party in the 1920-30s ? (I think about this time )

    paulinem,

    Three trillion dollars

Lets assume the current population of NZ is 4 million.

Devide 3 trillion by 4 million leaves every man, woman and child owing 750 billion dollars each.

Please correct me if I’m wrong
