No I don’t think the news media are short of stories I think with Harry and Megan we may be seeing the end of the monarchy.

The idea that the members of the aristocracy are special is the mainstay of the monarchy but if some of them can just leave then the public may realise that there is nothing special about the monarchy.

When that happens the UK taxpayers may start to question why they are paying so much to a group of ordinary people who are very rich in their own right.

    Cheers 🙂

Paulinem….while I’m not encouraging anyone on gups to break the rules I agree in election year politics is of vital importance and should be discussed in a sane and sensible manner.

I think it’s fairly safe to say admin only come onto these threads if someone complains.  I guess that’s the reason for the ad for viagra is still here…no one complained.

Some people are easily upset, a woman grabbing headlines because she saw nude bathers at a pool she went to, they did not attack her so she was not threatened, so what’s the problem? Nothing there she has not seen before, just a bit more of it but nothing new. I would agree that people, especially women, are more attractive dressed than undressed but poor viewing occasionally should be no cause for making a fuss.

    So far just one entry.

    Now for the good news.
In July last year, Ethiopia smashed the world record for tree planting. Led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, millions of Ethiopians planted 353 million trees in 12 hours.
    Wow!

Amazing what we can achieve when we get enough people together dedicated to a cause.

The team behind the mass planting had previously set a goal of planting 200 million trees (only) and would have easily taken over India’s previous-standing record of 50 million trees. But they really blew it out of the water by getting a massive 350 million down.

The record for most number of trees planted in a day by an individual is held by Ken Chaplin (Canada)who planted 15,170 red pine seedlings in one day near Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada.

The most trees planted in 24 hours in a single location by a team of 300 is 847,275 and was achieved by the Sindh Forest Department at Kharochan, District Thatta, Pakistan.

    Cheers 🙂

It’s time someone other than me spoke out about the dreadful waste of money opening up the Pike River mine, the mother of one of the victims has said enough money has been spent for no outcome and no more should be wasted. I would like to see any money remaining from the original opening up sum distributed to the next of kin, at least then it could be put to good use. Leave the tomb alone!

Don021, While certain people are in charge of the operation the ‘opening up’ won’t be stopping any time soon is my opinion.
Monies have already been paid to families through normal ACC procedures.

Many of the Pike River families have moved out of the area because they are sick and tired of the constant reminders – they also want the remains of their loved ones left alone with those of their mates.
It’s a pretty safe bet almost all west coasters are sick of it and from what I read no one talks about it anymore -coasters are over it and worrying about everyday problems and concerns.

Pike River -It is my perception the drive to find the bodies etc is not just to  give them a decent burial etc BUT more important find out what happened to cause the disaster and was any one say in management in any way responsible for what happened.  In other words  their was a thinking the accident could  have been avoided. So maybe  their was  an unacceptable cover up by management after the accident etc to assure justice  was  not done.

That perhaps the ones been negative about re entry is to assure there would be   no discovery that the reality that caused the  accident occurred was because of bad even  deliberate wrong management decisions.

Then if  what they discover in the mine  does point at management  then its important to for our justice system  make  them face our courts.

Also at the time of the accident,  from memory I think I remember their been considerable anger from the relatives  as their was a belief, not enough was done to try and rescue some of the miners left behind that may not have died.  immediately. As from memory there was considerable anger at the quickness of sealing the mine which stopped any more rescue attempts

In other words grownups I suspect this  re entry into Pike River is as much about seen Justice was done as to  get the bodies out of the mine
