Horrifying that such hatred has reached our shores.

I totally agree with our  PM. There is no place in our society for those who would commit acts of terrorism. Freedom of worship is a foundational value of this country. Every citizen, whether they be Muslim, Christian, Jewish, or what ever should be safe to practice their religion. Actions such as we saw unfolding in Christchurch can not be tolerated.

My thoughts are with the Muslim Community and the people of Christchurch at this time.

    Already disturbed, approach with caution.

A few years ago now there was a poster on here whose pen name I cant recall. He was an australian living in Christchuch who did a bit of painting and was popular on this site, He made several posts expressing his opinion that all Muslems should be shot. Hopefully the events of today have changed his mindset but I very much doubt it

I think the poster you are referring to was Ocker….one of the kindest gentleman around. His comments were mad very much “tongue in cheek”. I know him personally and he wouldn’t hurt a fly….some people just didn’t understand his sense of humour. He is the same man who has donated paintings to Women’s Refuge to aid their appeals

So multiple posts saying all muslems shoud be shot is “tongue in cheek” humour. Ask him if he has any regrets. My expectation is that he wont

Dally, I can also vouch for Ocker. He is a very tongue in cheek chap who loves to wind people up. A very kind friend with whom I love to trade insults especially Australian insults. Many of us who have remained friends with him know there are many far more dangerous folk . When you know him most of what he says, is said with a smile and he loves getting a reaction from his outlandish remarks.

We should worry more about the people who throw insults around who are  not joking. His talk about muslims occurred around the time that ISIS were very active  & often killing innocent women & children , rather than in relation to NZ muslims.

Agreed Cook222, he does have a strange sense of humour at times but unlike some posters at least he has one. What has occurred today is not an opportunity for others to try and score brownie points, especially by taking things out of context. We are in a state of shock down here, what with earthquakes and now this shooting we don’t need any clown to try to make themselves look important by attacking somebody who isn’t in a position to respond. Thanks to all who are supporting us. My SIL in the force had just got home from coming off duty when he was called back and he isn’t expected home until sometime over the weekend he hopes. His family is missing him and at their age can’t understand what is going on. My suggestion to some posters here is to show some sense and if you must post post something sensible or at least empathetic not derogatoryof others.
