Thankyou all for your concern. The Airport is a nightmare and we left in a 747 absolutely packed. Sue and I were chuffed to be in business class in kind of armchairs with our own computer for movies games etc. Buses came out to the plane to bring us to the Terminal and the Salvation Army and Red Cross are on hand to comfort the traumatised people who are arriving with nowhere to go. Thanks Auckland.

Joybel, such a joy to see your green light on for a while, as with others finally getting use of theirs or someone elses computers. I am glad your daughter took you in hand. 😉
Just take one day at a time, is all that you can do.

    Southern Belle.

Thank you for letting us know you are o.k. Joybel.
The Elms is closed, I had to go up past there to get groceries.
The Eastgate Mall is munted, Warehouse has walls down and the inside of the mall is a bomb site.
Granny & Gordon have running water and power and telephone so we are going over there to have a shower, which will be bliss.

It is raining here so those with ‘holes in the ground’ are going to need an umbrella and raincoat. Tried the loo seat on the buket but it was too unstable. Going to try and cut the legs off a chair and take the seat off, look like it might be a bit more comfortable for me anyway.
They will get us portaloos, but so far no one has been in our area to extend any help – we are usually the forgotten suburb, we were last time too because we are on the fringe of an commercial area.

Wish it did not have to rai, that will make life just that wee bit more difficult.
The silt is now a gluggy mess, again, and slippery as hell.
We don’t have gumboots so will be going back to putting plastic shopping bags over our feet to keep the grey ooze off clothes and shoes.
No water to wash clothes, so they are mounting up.

Hey! we are alive, we have power and that means the phones are working and cellphone charged.

Keep in touch with each other, it really helps.

Brilliant to have a good family isn’t it Joybel. We have had a large sum of money deposited by to different members. Offer of beds, plane fares etc. Lots of moral support and love from local families. Naturally we are going to stay put:oops::oops:
We just feel privileged to live in a little pocket of ChCh that seems to retain power and water.
We were just discussing this morning that these houses maybe on the small side but were built in the 60’s by builders who seemed to do things more thoroughly. Like the State houses they are built to last. We hope;);)
So pleased everyone of our G.Up family is accounted for now except for Dr. L and I am sure that will be an electricity problem.

If you are operational, esbri, please let us know you are both hanging in there. Thinking of you both. Are you still painting and paperhanging. Son rang from Brisbane . He said he just knew I was at The Kings Speech and I could see the rest at another theatre. Fat chance. daughter can get me a copy, but can’t say I am feeling a lot of sympathy for George V1. It is all so normal up here. The chooks are laying and clucking continuously. The horror stories keep coming butIi am pleased to hear that the Red Cross are moving out to the suburbs as many are elderly with no transport to get what they need. Keep safe.
