3Are you a parent or grandparent struggling to keep up when it comes to technology? Tech Toolbox could be the answer.

Designed to bring parents, grandparents and other adults up to speed with the latest technologies, The Mind Lab by Unitec has expanded its Newmarket lab to adults. Now even grown-ups can join in with the future-focused fun thanks to this innovative evening course.

With weekly sessions covering the basics of coding, robotics, 3D printing and much more, the 10-week course runs on Wednesday nights in Newmarket and will commence its third intake early this September. Tech Toolbox is specifically tailored towards adults wanting to keep ahead of the curve and catch up with their techy kids and grandkids.

Keeping up with technology

Fee McLeod, General Manager of The Mind Lab, says the programme is an exciting opportunity for parents and grandparents to get involved in their children’s or grandchildren’s digital world whilst learning about exciting technological advancements.

“The hands-on programme immerses attendees in digital and creative technologies that are soon to shape our world,” says Fee.

“Over the past two intakes, we have seen attendees master different creative technologies, including building robots, websites and electronic cars, and creating, editing and uploading videos. Some attendees are now even able to teach their kids or grandkids a thing or two!

“The first two intakes of the programme have demonstrated that adults from all walks of life can embrace the opportunities presented by today’s technologies.”

4Bring a friend for free

With no experience or digital skills necessary, attendees are also welcome to bring a friend, colleague, family member or teen over the age of 13 each week for free.

Damon Kahi, National Technologist at The Mind Lab, says technology is progressing at such a rapid rate that the saying ‘blink and you miss it’ has never been more true.

“Tech Toolbox is an amazing opportunity for those that have blinked and missed out on the tech evolution. The course gives them the chance to explore, discover, and learn about the new technology that is becoming part of our everyday lives,” he says.
