Hands Up Holidays takes you to exotic destinations for a holiday, where you not only see the sights, but can be fulfilled by a taste of volunteering. Join us on an experience that blends sightseeing with the opportunity to take part in short volunteer projects.
Hands Up Holidays is a voluntourism specialist, offering both small group and tailor-made tours. Most scheduled trips are 14 days, with 4 days volunteering, using 4-5* accommodation.
All our trips are graded by Activity Level and Comfort Level so you can easily find the best ‘adventure that counts’ for you!
These volunteer adventures are for you if:
• you are interested in having a break, want to explore a destination, and also give something back to the local community.
• you value meaningful interaction with other cultures - achieved through the medium of volunteering.
• you value low-impact, sustainable tourism practices that directly benefit local communities.
• you do not have specific skills, but have a lot of enthusiasm and a positive attitude (and if you do have specific skills, we will match these where possible)
Almost all our trips will depart with just two people booking!

We have partnered with established organisations such as Habitat for Humanity, Common Hope, and Rotary International to build a simple home for a family that could not otherwise be adequately housed. You will typically work with professional local builders who do the tricky parts, leaving you to help with essential tasks like pouring concrete, and hammering in nails.
Frequently, the family the house is being built for, as well as other members of the community, will come and help build with you! The full cost of the materials you will use in building the house are included in the price of your trip.

There are many schools, hospitals and orphanages whose ambience and “mood” would be greatly improved by a fresh coat of paint, or simple repairs made to furniture such as chairs and desks. Like house building, this is another rewarding activity that often gets the community involved, thus providing opportunities to learn about another culture, share laughs, and touch lives.
You may be teaching one student at a time, or you may be helping run an “English camp” for a local school, where the emphasis is on getting the children comfortable speaking English through the use of fun games and activities. We supply you with the appropriate teaching materials. Your students range from primary school children, to adults who can use their new skills to obtain employment.
Peru - 5th October.
A 19 day trip that takes in Lima, the Amazon jungle, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca and the floating villages of Uros, Cusco, hiking the Inca Trail up Machu Picchu, and 4 days volunteering in a village near Cusco, where travellers can help teach, assist with basic repair and renovations, or, if they have medical skills, use them in the medical clinic.
The trip is normally priced at $4,600 plus flights in 3* accommodation throughout (apart from the Inca Trail), but Hands Up Holidays is offering a 10% discount to GrownUps visitors, taking the price to $4,140 plus flights.
Homeless World Cup - Nov 29-Dec 15
Involves helping at the Homeless World Cup in Melbourne, then exploring Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Daintree Rainforest, and the Great Barrier Reef – 3* throughout.
The Homeless World Cup is an incredible event involving homeless people from 48 countries playing soccer...bizarre I know, but it has had incredible success in these people going on to find jobs, come off addictions, gain a sense of self esteem and hope, and be reunited with their families.
Volunteers can help with match reporting, match photography, access monitoring, catering assistance, and changing rooms monitoring.

Although Kiwis generally aren’t really into soccer, and most know the East Coast of Oz well, but for those that don’t and are soccer fans, this trip is superb.
It is normally priced at NZ$3,975 but HandsUp can offer it exclusively to GrownUps visitors for $3,500 plus flights to and in Oz.
Both of these trips are suitable for 50+, although the Peru one does require reasonable fitness due to the altitude and the Inca Trail hike.
