Treetops Lodge and Wilderness Experience has been selected as New Zealand’s best hotel in the annual Travel + Leisure Magazine 2009 survey, as released in their January 2009 magazine edition.
This comes just months after selection as New Zealand’s best hotel in the 2008 Condé Nast Traveler (USA) magazine Readers’ Choice Awards.
Treetops is just one of many eco lodges springing up in New Zealand and overseas, which proves that eco friendly doesn’t mean compromising luxury.
If you are keen to experience eco luxury you are not restricted to New Zealand, options abound further afield. Saadani Safari camp in Tanzania offers five double ‘Star Gazer’ tents built by villagers using local building materials and – and here’s the best part - an ensuite natural bathroom open to the sky.
Alternatively you could stay at the Bali mountain eco lodge. Linda and Norm, who run the lodge, campaign actively to protect the environment and recently brokered a community agreement to preserve 800 hectares of local rainforest.
If you want eco accommodation but your budget is more modest, a google search should locate eco lodges catering to all budgets in a bewildering array of countries.
