Freedom Camping in Australia is very popular when travelling in a Motorhome or Campervan.

What is Freedom Camping?

Freedom camping simply is a free or low cost camping location, away from the usual ‘commercial campgrounds’. They can be in idyllic locations such as nestled in the bush, beside a river, or a beach.

There are literally thousands of these areas all over Australia that people like you, travelling in a motorhome, are welcome to stay.  By hiring a self contained motorhome, these locations are perfect for you to roll into after a day of exploring our beautiful country.

For many of our travellers, while there are fewer facilities at the freedom camps, they don’t mind, because of the money they save and the location they are based.  Generally, depending on the traveller, every third night or so is spent in a commercial camp with facilities to give a chance to catch up on washing and the like.

Are Freedom Camps Safe?

We’ve lost count of the number of freedom camps that we have stayed in, but in our experience there has never been an issue of safety.  Often there will be a few other travellers, just like you, at your freedom camp of choice.  It’s worth saying ‘g’day’, as your fellow travellers are a gold mine of information.  They may have just come from the area that you are planning to explore and could tell you about road conditions, a town worth stopping in, or where you can pick up some local produce for a bargain.

Some of our clients who are new to freedom camping can’t believe the stunning locations they find themselves in.   As Dave, one of our travellers said ‘where else can you get more, for paying less!’
