The Dome - 360° of Luxury

The Dome is the perfect place to relax and indulge while you are on holiday. Three penthouse apartments and two studios encompass the top two floors of the 1937 T&G building, an iconic Art Deco masterpiece in the heart of Napier. The Dome is the best location in Hawke’s Bay with accommodation options to suit all requirements.

The apartments are fully self-contained and exclusively yours for the duration of your stay. Each has been lavishly styled, with furnishing by designers like Philippe Starke, artwork by prominent NZ artists and Bose entertainment systems.

The generous living areas have many rooms opening onto private rooftop balconies, giving spectacular ocean views and a sweeping city panorama. Due to its versatile configuration, we are able to provide many options to suite your individual travel requirements.

All rooms come with air conditioning, cable/Sky TV, fridge, tea and coffee, laundry facilities, elevator access. Guests also have access to the roof-top terrace with heated Magna plunge pool and hot tub.

The Apartments

Three Luxury apartments, each with it’s own distinctive character.

Cape View Penthouse – Two-bedroom penthouse apartment for up to 4 guests

Deco Decant Penthouse – Two-bedroom penthouse apartment for up to 6 guests

Pacific View Apartment – Two-bedroom, top-floor apartment for up to 6 guests. The Grand Dining room and king size kitchen is an optional extra.

The Studios

  Two, large, single room studio apartments. Each room has it's own fridge and tea/coffee facilities. In addition there is a shared kitchenette and laundry facilities.

Dame Studio: 1 – King-size room. Sleeps three, king-size bed or twins plus a fold out bed. This room has an en suite with disability access

Dame Studio: 2 – King-size room. Sleeps three, king-size bed or twins plus a fold out bed. Large en suite with a deep bath

Note: These rooms can be booked together to form a single two-bedroom apartment.

Our 'Grand' offering

These offers have been designed for larger groups and corporate events. They require vacancy of adjoining rooms, please book well in advance.

Pacific Grand Apartment – Top-floor apartment, four bedrooms for up to 10 guests. This requires vacancy of the top floor, so please book well in advance

The Dome Grand Apartment – for 20+ guests, utilising both floors. This requires vacancy of the entire property. Please book well in advance.

History

The Dome is located in the T&G Building which was built as part of Napier’s reconstruction effort, after a devastating earthquake destroyed the city in 1931. The reconstruction was based on the prevailing architectural influences of the day: Spanish mission, neo-classical and of course Art Deco. Napier is now internationally recognized as the Art Deco capital of the world. Nowhere else can you see such a variety and concentration of buildings in this distinctive style.

The T&G Building sits proudly on the corner of Marine Parade and Emerson Street. Completed in 1935, the building was originally the home of Temperance General Insurance, a company that emerged during the Prohibition Era in the early 1900s.

Architecturally, the T&G building was built in the stripped classical style. Due to its striking architectural features and location, the Dome has become a Napier icon and one of the most photographed buildings in the country, characterised by a distinctive copper domed roof or cupola, complete with clock tower.
