Canoe Safaris – Whanganui National Park (Save 10% in Feb or March 2014)

So, you're 50 and over and looking for a holiday for the summer with a group of friends or with the family.

You may not want to admit it, but now you prefer a bit more comfort at the end of the day, and the spaghetti and baked beans just don't sound as appealing as they may have done a few years ago!

After quite a few years guiding on the Whanganui River I have reached the same place.

I started guiding for Canoe Safaris in 1983 and back then I wasn't worried about food, wine, thick sleeping mats or dry tents. But Canoe Safaris was, and over the years I have come to appreciate it more and see just how our clients feel on our trips.

So, we still regularly update our tents and river gear and our food just keeps getting better – varied breakfasts and lunches, and 3 course dinners with wine.

Each year we update our Thermorest sleeping mats and they get even more comfortable – almost twice as thick as our old ones (which were still good). Our tents have two doors – so you don't have to wake your sleeping partner if you get up for an early morning cuppa with the guides.

All Whanganui trips include one night indoors at Ramanui lodge where clients can relax on the balcony with a book, or go for a short walk. (Please book early so that we can guarantee you a bed.)

Our five Day Whanganui Journey is still the most popular trip, with more time to relax on the river, and also takes in walks like the Bridge to Nowhere, and part of the Matemateonga track.

Shorter trips are also available and we do have a 3 day trip in our 6 person Voyageur Canoes that is great for anyone who is a little nervous about paddling – these canoes have a guide in the back who steers the canoe and can tell you the river history along the way.

Our guides continue to be the best available, with experience on rivers all over the world, and great cooking skills.
