Fit, fabulous and over 50 are how some customers describe themselves since getting back into cycling.

Not only are people enjoying the health and wellbeing benefits of cycling, they love new found friendships and travel experiences.

There is no better time to explore cycling with fantastic safe riding environments in and around Auckland. The next few months promise lovely weather so pack up a thermos, grab a friend, hire a bike and we'll give you advice on where you can go on one-day or weekend leisure trips.

While many people ride along Auckland's waterfront, it is worth considering what's on offer outside the CBD, such as easy riding around Devonport or a little further afield on Auckland's eastern shores. East Auckland rides offer gentle, scenic coastal trips which can be accessed by car or the ferry from Half Moon Bay.

For weekend breaks, try exciting new trails on the world class cycle network throughout New Zealand. Options to consider include Hauraki Rail Trail (near Coromandel) and The Timber Trail (near Taumarunui).

We have seen a huge increase in over 50s taking up cycling in recent years and have started a one hour cycle safety refresher course with trained experienced cyclists. This session includes fitting you to the right bike for your size, how to use the brakes and gear functions and an overview of safe riding and sharing footpaths with pedestrians.

We look forward to welcoming you to your Avanti mountain bike at Adventure Capital!

Cycling At 60!

Meet Tony and Joy Hannifin who took up cycling a year ago and haven't looked back!

Tony and his wife, Joy, hired gear from Adventure Capital and rode along Auckland's waterfront down to St Heliers and back to the City. They were hooked on the first day.

"We thought: 'wow, we can do this'. We had a fantastic ride along the waterfront and it was amazing to be out in the fresh air beside the sea. As this was our first ride since cycling as kids, Adventure Capital offered us a safety course and gave an indepth briefing on sharing Auckland's roads and footpaths," said Tony.

Tony's first competition ride was "Ride to Conquer Cancer", 2 days, 200km.

Tony recommends hiring cycling gear, especially as newcomers to the sport. "Adventure Capital offers the latest Avanti mountain bikes for hire and will take care of the cleaning and maintenance. It's an economical way to enjoy a sport as cycling gear can be expensive to purchase," he said.
