Passion Play

The world famous Passion Play is being held in Oberammergau for the 41st time in 2010.

We welcome you to join us for this “once in a decade” performance either with one of our fully escorted tours below and inside or other packages.

We have a wide range of European holidays available as well as tours incorporating the play.

The venue capacity is limited, but we have guaranteed seating reserved for our groups. 

The world famous Oberammergau Passion Play is a re-enactment of a play pledged at a moment of mortal threat.

After months of suffering and death from the plague in the 17th century, the villagers of Oberammergau in Bavaria made a pledge that if the village was spared further suffering, they would perform a play dedicated to the passion of Christ every 10 years. 

They have maintained this pledge, from the first in 1634, through until the current time - and 2010 is your chance to experience this “once in a decade” event for yourself.

Holy Land and Oberammergau

Combine the amazing experiences of the Holy Land and walk in the steps of Christ and the apostles, then travel through Austria and Bavaria for the Oberammergau Passion Play. This tour ends in Italy - visits to Verona, Assisi & Rome.

Itinerary:

Day 1 - Depart NZ.

Day 2 -  In transit.

Day 3 - Istanbul - Tel Aviv. Half day tour including Haghia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome and Grand Bazaar. Overnight Tel Aviv. B,D

Day 4 - Tel Aviv, - Caesarea - Haifa - Mt. Carmel - Nazareth - Cana.  Ancient Roman cities aqueduct and fortresses, panoramic views, Mt Carmel Carmelite Monastery, Nazareth, the Church of the Annunciation and Mary's Well. Overnight Tiberias. B,D

Day 5 - Mount of Beatitudes - Tabgha - Capernaum - Golan Heights. Cruise the Sea of Galilee, visit the Mount of Beatitudes, sites Sermon on the Mount and Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes, Capernaum and River Jordan. Return Tiberias. B,D

Day 6 - Beit Shean - Jericho - Jerusalem. Visit Yardenit, the Baptismal Centre on the Jordan River. and Holy City - Jerusalem. Accom for 4 nights Jerusalem. B,D

Day 7 - Jerusalem - Bethlehem. Old City, Western (Wailing) Wall, Temple Mount, Dome on the Rock, Via Dolorosa, Pool of Bethesda, Church of St Anne, Bethlehem Church of Nativity and Garden Tomb. B,D

Day 8 - Jerusalem. Mount of Olives, Church of Ascension,  Garden of Gethsemane, Kidron Valley tombs of Absalom, Zachariah and James, St. Peters Galicantu, Mt Zion, Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum, display of the Dead Sea Scrolls,  Yad Vashem, Holocaust Museum and Memorial. B,D

Day 9 - Dead Sea - Massada - Qumran.  We travel to the shores of the Dead Sea - the lowest point of earth. cable car to the top of the mountain at Massada to Herod's fortress, Qumran optional swim in the Dead Sea. B,D

Day 10 - Tel Aviv - Zurich. B

Day 11 - Zurich  - Oberammergau. Tour Zurich view picturesque Neuschwanstein Castle. Accom 2 nights Oberammergau. B,D

Day 12 - Oberammergau. Passion Play today. B,D

Day 13 - Oberammergau. Innsbruck old town & Brenner Pass into Italy. Accom Verona/Florence. B

Day 14 - Verona - Assisi - Rome. Including Basilica of St Francis of Assisi. B

Day 15 - Rome. Including St Peters, Colosseum and Roman Forum.  Optional visits to Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza di Spagna & Spanish Steps. B

Day 16 - Rome. Transfer to the airport. B

Day 17 - In transit.

Day 18 - Return to NZ
