Just a short 4 hour flight from New Zealand, Rarotonga typifies what most of us are looking for when we think of the tropics. The experience is not manufactured, the culture, the traditions, the songs and dances, the food and delicacies have remained unchanged over the decades despite the growth of tourism.
The wealth of the land is not measured in Real Estate prices but rather in the abundance of ripening banana trees, fruiting pawpaw plants, groves of tall coconut palms, giant mango trees laden with juicy mangoes that ripen in the warm summer months, wild guava trees with too much fruit to pick and modest family houses filled with the sound of children laughing and grandmothers keeping a watchful eye while gossiping under the pandanus trees. This is how the Cook Island people have lived for decades…the pace is relaxed and unhurried.
