Regular Columnists on GrownUps
We sailed from Auckland an hour later than planned, on 2nd July....arriving Suva on 5th. The rain followed us all the way...and Suva poured a deluge on us which ehanced humidity. I had hurt my foot capturing sunrise photos earlier so we didn't spend much time ashore in Suva. Most of the ship's passengers agreed it was dirty and chaotic anyway.
Shipboard life was full, for those who had the energy. Lots of bars, a casino, shops and food to die for. The food actually was so much that everyone complained they'd gained at least 5 kgs by end of the trip. Great entertainment in the theatre each evening....with tremendously talented singers, dancers and comedians.
My friend and I had agreed we'd mix and mingle rather than spend the entire cruise doing things together...besides we each had different tastes. I spend most of my time relaxing with a good book, doing sudoku puzzles, taking photos or just meandering and chatting to a few people. I didn't personally need all the entertainment, and with my bad foot was unable to dance the night away anyway.
The three ports of call after Suva were great.....Port Denarau was beautiful....we were even provided with a courtesy car to drive us into Nandi for shopping....that was a great chance to buy a few gifts. At each of the ports we were greeted ashore by dancers and music, and the Fijian people were always very friendly and full of smiles.
Savusavu it rained again but we went shopping...great bargains there. Lastly we called at tiny Dravuni island, a very beautiful tropical paradise.
Within 24 hours we were back into cooler weather and more rain greeted us back in Auckland.
All in all a great cruise experience for which both my friend and I are very grateful for, it was certainly an unforgetable experience.
Thanks again to GrownUps and to the great crew of Pacific Sun (who's service was always done with a smile) and P&O.
All the best to you all,
Polly
