An authentic travel experience in Italy

Authentic Italy Tours - since 2002

Our itineraries are designed around the most features that characterise a particular area or region and which often leads us to obscure and fascinating places.
You will meet (and sometimes dine with) local residents in their homes and enjoy informal presentations by ourselves and others with specialists knowledge. In addition, you will enjoy the wine tastings and regional cuisine are highlights of our tours.
Our personal knowledge, and professional backgrounds in architecture, and natural history, local cuisine and history will lend unique perspective and insight to your experience.
Your Hosts
Two Italians and one Kiwi – friends collaborators and brothers-in-law. Andrea Bassan (Rome), John Anderson (Auckland), Stefano Cannata (Rome).
Our own explorations of Italy together over many years, combined with a desire to give visitors to Italy the opportunity for a more complete and absorbing experience, have lead to the itineraries and tours we now offer.
We model our itineraries to provide an experience that Italians themselves would enjoy: travel within Italy with the advantages of being accompanied by Italian speaking guides, an intimate knowledge of the cultural and historical background, and a nose for selecting a good place to eat!
Participants
Our typical participant is in the fifty plus age group, an independent traveller who has visited Italy before and wants an exceptional travel experience. Many who have travelled with us return to explore new parts of Italy with Authentic Italy Tours.
Maximum 8 people per tour
Our tours this year have a maximum of eight participants. Our small group size, legendary hospitality and informal but informative style ensures a best and enjoyable of travel experiences.

Puglia:
"The trulli houses in Alberobello, the historic Sassi cave dwellings of Matera (a sight never to be forgotten), the hill town of Locorotondo and the beautiful port of Galipoli are only some of the amazing places visited. These sights and the fabulous food all go into making everlasting memories of a wonderful trip.
Andrea and John and Stefano are such fantastic hosts, with their expert knowledge and humour. They helped to make the tour so very enjoyable, and one I thoroughly recommend.""(Dale Hern, participant on our third Puglia tour)

Rome & the Sabine Hills District:"I had been to Rome many times but was amazed at the wonderful places we visited in the city that I had never previously seen. The Lazio region itself is a treasure house of fascinating sites, ranging from Etruscan remains through to towns built according to the best architectural principles of Mussolini’s time. The knowledge and enthusiasm of John and Andrea and Stefano for food leads them to search out the best of local cuisine, and their architectural expertise provides a new dimension when touring. Great company, great trip!"
(Christine Wilson, participant on our second Lazio tour)
