Discover the Real UK & Europe
Experience the Back-Roads Touring Difference

Immersing yourself in the bustle of a big European city can be an exhilarating experience but at the Back-Roads Touring Company they also believe that you’ll find the heart and soul of a country in its regional areas. It’s here, away from the crowds, that a nation’s culture and heritage shines brightest.
It makes perfect sense that Back-Roads UK and European tours concentrate on regional touring above all else. Taking visitors to parts of Europe that other tour companies just pass on the motorway, giving guests a genuine cultural experience wherever they stop.
With more than 25 years experience Back-Roads Touring has always offered a unique type of guided holiday. By limiting group sizes to a maximum of just 16 passengers (average group size is 10) the aim has always been to offer a more friendly, relaxed and flexible holiday experience.
The company’s purpose built Mercedes mini-coaches can take you to places in the UK and Europe that the larger coach tours are simply unable to reach. This means you can leave the typical tourist trails behind and visit tiny places like the cobbled town centre of historic European villages, or the narrow country lanes in the English Cotswolds.
These smaller group sizes also allow Back-Roads Touring to offer greater flexibility with travel plans and the opportunity to discover hidden corners of history through local encounters. Smaller groups are also far less intrusive which allows the group to drop into a country pub for locally made ale or stop off to watch artisans creating beautiful glasswork.
Tasting the local cuisine is an important part of any holiday and is so important in gaining a true appreciation of the destination. Back-Roads ‘I-Select’ menu choices allow guests a choice of dishes from the menu for all included evening meals and each tour features at least one ‘Culinary Encounter’. This ‘Culinary Encounter’ is a special dining experience away from the hotel and a great opportunity to sample the produce of that region. This meal could be in a restaurant with a well-known local chef or a location where historical characters once dined. A favourite with guests in recent times has been Rick Stein’s restaurant ‘The Seafood Restaurant’ in the village of Padstow.
When it comes to accommodation you’ll find it’s just as unique and charming as the tour itself. You won’t find generic motel chains, cheap B&B’s or overwhelming 5-star hotels. In choosing a hotel, Back-Roads Touring places great emphasis on the hotel’s setting, ambience, architecture and friendly service. Whether it’s a stunning villa in Italy, an exquisite chateau in France or a traditional English country Inn, you can expect to be even further immersed in the culture of the region.
Above all else it’s obvious that Back-Roads Touring is one company that still believes that the journey is as important as the destination and there’s no doubt that with the inspiring range of tour itineraries available every guest can look forward to a unique, genuine and unforgettable experience.
