I travelled to this country with my family in 1961 on board the P&O ship Oriana. it was it second voyage sailing from Southampton on the 12th. April 1961, we came via the Meditterannen and the Suez Canal across to Ceylon ( as it was known then) and then down through the Indian ocean to Freemantle, Melbourne, Sydney and finally to Auckland. We arrived on the 11th May 1961.
I think that we had a passenger number of about 2000 and at least 400 disembarked here in N.Z. to set up a new life in the "Land of the Long White Cloud"
Keith Holyoake was the Prime Minister and this country was going places.
I am wondering if there are many of those original passengers still here in this country, the 50th Anniversary of our arrival is only 18 months away and it would be good to share memories of that voyage and events since we arrived here.
I would appreciate contact from fellow passengers.
