South America: For Kiwis, by Kiwis

This article came about because of a phone call I had the other day regarding our South American Sojourn. It started as a simple comment from a lady interested in the trip who said she also had an itinerary from a travel agent. Most of the destinations were the same except for the Amazon excursion and homestay on Lake Titicaca and theirs was for a slightly larger group size. She wanted to know how our trip would be different. 

Well, we started this business because there is a need for fabulous small group trips run by Kiwi’s who really know their stuff. The trips needed to make people feel safe and confident in areas which are often out of their comfort zones.  We operate only once or twice a year to each of our destinations, so it’s our only chance to really show you that neck of the woods and we are just as excited about being there as you are.

I’ve learned our uniqueness is a difficult concept to explain  but once you tour with us you’ll get it. That’s why word of mouth has worked so well. Our trips are designed to be a special experience just for you and those in your group, and yes many destinations are the same. For example in Peru we wouldn’t dream of missing out Machu Picchu just because everyone else goes there, that is part of what you came to see. However the journey and details of each trip with us are very different to the larger tour operators. We’ll take you to my relative's place in Austria for a local wine tasting, or a backyard BBQ with my mates in Belize and Nick has some favourite little spots in Peru and Galapagos that he’ll show you.  I could go on for ages but it would ruin all the little surprises.

What it comes down to is that you’ll feel like you’re travelling with a bunch of friends, not being herded around in a tour group. We treat you as the individuals you are, not as the lowest common denominator. Both Nick and I have spent many years working for large tour companies with “cookie cutter” itineraries that run every week. Many people do have a wonderful experience, though some also have a mediocre one. We, on the other hand fully expect all our passengers to have the trip of a lifetime.
