Our Kea Motorhome Holiday

Winning a weeks holiday in a Kea Motorhome was just the start of an amazing adventure. Where to go and what to do while travelling around our beautiful country? We flew into a very wet Auckland on Saturday 2nd May to be met by John from KEA Motorhomes. After we had received all the necessary instructions about how everything worked in the van we hit the road and headed south to Hamilton, Cambridge and Otorohanga where we spent the first night. An early start next morning saw us heading to Waitomo and Aranui caves. What a great experience. On the road again through Te Kuiti, Turangi and on to Taupo where we spent the second night. A quick look around Taupo and we were on the road heading for Rotorua. We stopped on the way to have a look at The Huka Falls and have a ride on the jet boat. Wow what a buzz that was!

Our next stop was The Honey Hive where we got some goodies to bring home. After spending the night at The Rotorua Family Holiday Park, which we decided was the best one we stayed at, we visited Whakarewarewa Maori Village, The Shweeb, The Gondola and the luge which was a lot of fun. Night was closing in when we arrived in Tauranga. Day five already and we were heading for Mount Maunganui where we strolled around before deciding to climb to the top. What an amazing view. After spending the night in Waihi we went to visit the gold mining area. There was so much history that, we as south Islanders knew nothing about. We drove back towards Auckland through The Karangakake Gorge and Paeroa. Takapuna was to be the place for the final night of our trip. After parking the van we took the bus to Devonport and the ferry across to the city. We wandered around visiting the viaduct and the skycity casino. After the trip back to Takapuna we decided to celebrate our great adventure with a meal out at r'toto. Before delivering the motorhome back to Kea we had time to visit Browns Bay.

We travelled nearly 1000 kms in 7 days, did and saw some things that we would not have had the chance to do. We cannot thank Kea Motorhomes and Grownups enough for the wonderful opportunity they gave us. Regards, Lorraine & Ron

by Glor 4th June 2009 I thought Minnie gave a good account of their lovely itinery, but I would have liked to have read about how they used and enjoyed the features of the Motorhome re comfort, facilities, driving of, etc, and the benefits of hiring a motorhome versus staying in motels and driving your own car
by Minnie Mouse 7th June 2009 Hi Minnie here, thanks for the kind words. We both found the motorhome very easy to drive even though it was a manual and we both drive automatic cars. It was very economical on fuel, had plenty of storage space and the bed was easy to put up and down. Once we had unpacked our bags we didnt have to repack until it was time to head back to christchurch. We intend to travel around again in a motorhome. Would thoroughly recommend it.
