From Monday to Sunday the pamphlets arrive,
In our letter box at the top of the drive.
The discounts offered range from 50% to fabulous
On everything from home appliances to medicaments miraculous,
The latter causes us to worry, is our health under threat,
Should we invest in all these cures and go into debt.
We consign all this mail to our very large waste bin,
But try as we might we just cannot win.
The phone attack is the next issue we face,
Are you living alone, do you own your own place,
Can our consultant who is in your area by chance
Make an appointment to explain how your wealth can advance.
Then the doorbell rings and two ladies tell us their names,
Talk about the weather but never mention their aims.
Then gradually the conversation moves to our maker's power
And out of their bag comes a copy of watchtower.
We retreat to our lounge and turn on the Tv
Where the programme interrupts the adverts aimed at you and me.
