I am getting fed up with TV advertisers that are "OFFERING" up to 60% off their goods.
I'm not a rocket scientist, (but I did do Book keeping and Commercial Practise at College) and I know that YOU ARE IN BUSINESS to MAKE MONEY.
If you can give the public a "Discount" of 30% - 60% off the 'RECOMMENDED RETAIL PRICE, and make a profit for your business, I am damned certain your "Markup" is at least 100% above what it should be.
There are several businesses doing this every day and I am of the opinion that these businesses are boycotted because of their overpricing.
I am a semi retired Electronics Engineer and for many years purchased immediately needed products from Dick Smith. I even had their Trade Card which gave me a 10% discount off the retail price> (Bow and Scrape for their generousity) but since they were bought out by WOOLWORTHS (you know, the Supermarket people) they are no more than an electronic supermarket.
In fact you can buy 50% of their electronic products in a different box and name from Countdown, or other stores from the WOOLWORTHS stable.
For too long now there have been too few companies controlling the retail sector, and as such the fact of competition has gone out the door.
I think it's high time these companies (they know who they are) got back to basics and dropped their huge markups and then, when you got a 10% discount it actually meant something.
