fathers dayFather’s Day is this Sunday, September 7th. Fathers play so many roles in our lives – protector, mentor, disciplinarian, friend, teacher, critic, fan, counsellor and role model.

The idea of Father’s day is to spend time with your Dad, talk, laugh, reminisce and let him know how much he means to you. Part of celebrating someone sometimes involves gifts, so make sure you choose wisely.

Choose a gift that commemorates a fun time you have had together, or a shared interest. Even better, if you can be with your father on Sunday, do something fun together, that creates new memories.

If you can’t be with your Dad, at least make contact. If your Dad is no longer with you, you may like to make time to talk about him with the rest of your family, or spend the day doing something he enjoyed.

Other than choosing an experience, Dads also love to be spoilt, so feed them up, dress them up, upgrade their favourite toys and take them out.

Encourage young children to create an original piece of artwork that describes a favourite memory, or depicts the gentleman in question. As well as being heartfelt, these drawings and cards are often really cute and fun.

Showing someone how much you love and appreciate them doesn’t need to cost the earth. If your budget is tight, a beautifully worded card is sure to do the trick.

You may like to create vouchers for your own special offers – washing the car, doing the dishes, giving a back rub or even vouchers for an hour of silence during a test match will do the trick!

Most of all, by the end of Sunday, your Dad should feel as loved as he is.
