Article by John Hawkins.
Napier-based Suzuki Production Racing Series driver Scott McKelvie is hoping to arrive at the third round of the championship at Taupo with a better handling package for his new Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9.
McKelvie bought his previous Evo 6 as a ready-built race car, but his team has taken longer than anticipated to convert the new Evo 9 into a competitive production race car capable of taking the battle to C class front-runners Simon Sceats and Logan Childs.
The team believes the new car clearly has the potential to be a lot faster than the Evo 6, which lacked straight-line speed.
But although the Evo 9s engine is more powerful, the power isnt yet being delivered in the right places, and that will also be addressed before Taupo.
