Better mixing, lower power requirements, improved chopping, less fuel these are just some of the advantages of the new six-paddle Keenan Klassik feeder wagon.
Combined with a new bale handling system that can handle and process all shapes and sizes of bale, whether straw, hay or silage, it's a machine designed to meet the demands of dairy, beef and sheep farmers wanting to improve animal nutrition and boost performance.
This ability to chop big square or round bales, particularly of straw, is essential to the nutritional benefits of the Keenan Hi-fibre system of feeding, which has been shown to increase dairy margins by up to $1250 per cow over five years.
The Klassik mixer wagon produces a material chop length (5-10cm), which is now considered by leading nutritionists to be ideal for promoting optimum rumen activity and maximising feed utilisation.
At the heart of the machine is the mixing chamber, where no less than six paddles rotate at a leisurely 6rpm to create that steady, gentle tumbling action which mixes feed so effectively.
Bales placed on the specially engineered supporting bars are broken down in just a few minutes by the paddles rotating below as they push sections of the bale onto a static top knife. Further chopping takes place with fixed blades in the mixing chamber of the Klassik Balehandler.
Each of the paddles is angled so that only a small section is pushing material across the knives at any one moment. This not only achieves a very effective and efficient chop, but substantially cuts overall horsepower requirements and fuel usage compared to earlier models, the power needed is down by a fifth and chopping time reduced by an impressive 40 per cent.
It means that under normal operating conditions, an 85hp tractor is quite sufficient to power the Keenan Klassik 140 Balehandler model, although depending on the terrain a larger tractor may be needed to tow it.
The new six-paddle design also mixes faster and more evenly quickly creating the type of ration which encourages high intakes and limits sorting unique to paddle-based wagons.
The robust and straightforward design means the Keenan Klassik is easy to use, extremely reliable and simple to maintain.
