At a meeting we had at our Morris car club
It was mentioned to hubby one car’s not enough
It was suggested we buy this un-restored wreck
And I shudded and frowned and thought oh bloody heck!

But he still put in an offer for this thing covered in dust
And tried to convince me this car was a must
I sat in the sun unenthused from afar
Discouraged to glance at this old Morris car

Oh where could we put it I thought with disgust
A smelly old car all covered in dust
Why in the garage he said, it takes pride of place
To the modern whose banished, what about face
This Japanese car that I drive daily to work
His once pride and joy, has he gone beserk?

He waited in vain with his breath baited
Mine I am sure was far from elated
I think we’ve missed out he said with a sigh
Oh what a shame such a good buy

One owner he said and the same age as me
It’s just one of those things which was not meant to be
I tried not to smile but was misunderstood
As I counted the hours he’d be under the hood

You don’t understand me he said sulkily
Then the phone rang and the sulk turned to glee
We’ve got it he said with a grin ear to ear
Don’t worry he said you’ll love it my dear

He named the car Mary he informed me today
Mary the Morris is here to stay
