Reigning NZ V8 champion Kayne Scott will drive an ex-Mark Skaife Holden Commodore in this year’s Australian V8 Supercar Development Series which begins in Adelaide next month.

Scott said at the A1 GP race meeting at Taupo that he will race the Commodore that Skaife drove during the 2006 V8 Supercar championship.

Scott says the Mark Petch Motorsport team will use the ex-Skaife car to try to win the 2007 Fujitsu Development Series which starts with the Clipsal 500 meeting on the Adelaide City street circuit on March 1.

Scott will drive the Holden Racing Team car for the first time at a hand-over day with HRT at the Winton track in Victoria, Australia. He will later run a test programme with the Commodore at the Mallala circuit in South Australia in the build-up to the Clipsal meeting.

Scott is excited by the deal which he says gives the Petch outfit a state-of-the-art car built and developed by one of the top teams in Australian V8 racing.
“It puts us in a strong position (for the development series). HRT are constantly developing their cars and equipment.”

Running the car in the Development series will give the NZ team the best way to build a relationship with HRT.
“There’s no team better than HRT.”

Scott says he hopes to benefit from data sharing with the HRT V8 Supercar team during the season.

Initially the Petch squad will get a basic package from HRT and will have to work to show it is worthy of more assistance and that Scott’s driving is good enough.

Scott says he hopes a relationship can be forged with HRT that will see some reciprocal action, with an Australian driving the second Mark Petch Motorsport Commodore in the NZ V8 series.
