Many people don’t realize you can add more folders to your email program, to store important emails, or emails from a particular person, these people have 1000’s of emails in their inbox, and have to scroll through them all, to find a particular email. There is a much easier way.
In Outlook Express or Outlook, simply rightclick on your inbox folder, and select the option new folder, give the folder a name, ok it. Now just drag emails from your inbox into the folder. I have about 100 folders and subfolders from my inbox, one folder for each friend, one for paypal, one for each bank, etc. You can make as many folders as you like, in the same way, from any of the folders already there, each year, I make a new folder from my sent folder, and drag all the emails I sent that year into it, it makes finding emails so much easier.
Hotmail:
You can also make these folders in your hotmail account, with the main inbox folder open, just click the downward facing arrow just to the right of the "New" tab at the top left of the inbox, (not the page itself) then just select "Folder" a box will pop up to name the new folder, then click OK, and the folder will appear in the left menu of your inbox. If you have been online for a while, I bet you wish you knew that trick long ago huh. Adding message rules 1. Once you have made folders in your email, you can also make message rules, so any new messages go straight into their own folder, the easiest way to do this, is simply click on a message already in your inbox, then go to the "Messages" dropdown at the top of outlook express, click "Create rule from message…" a box will pop up with the option "where the from line contains People" already checked, and in the bottom box you will see the email address of the person that sent the email, then just go to the middle box, and choose the first option "move it to a specified folder, now a new line will appear in the third window, just click word specified, which is a link, and choose the folder you want emails from that person or place to be stored, or you have the option to make a new folder, once the folder is chosen, just ok it.
The next time an email comes in from that address it will bypass the inbox, and go straight into the folder you choose, it will show the same as the inbox does, if there is new mail. Adding message Rules 2. The other way to add a message rule, is go to the tools dropdown menu at the top of outlook express, choose Messages>Message Rules>Mail> and make up the rules from the options in the two windows. This way of making a message rule is really good, you can choose specific words out of junk mail you get like, "from Nigeria, give me you bank account number, and I will deposit one million dollars" or "Viagra" and make a rule to delete message. If you have a website with many different emails coming from it, you can make message rules so the various types of emails go into subfolders of your websites own folder. Deleting many messages from the Deleted Bin. Many people don't realize you can delete all messages in your deleted folder at one time, and go thru deleting them all one at a time. In either Outlook or Outlook Express just right click on the Deleted Items folder in the email menu, and select Empty "Deleted Items" Folder. And it;s empty, not clicking are Are you sure you want to delete this email tab. Just one click and they are all gone. I really do hope you find these tricks helpful.
