Some weeks ago I listened to a Radionz report, in which the creator of a web-based organisation in the U.S. described it: Freecycle.com. Although it started in the U.S., it is now worldwide and that includes N.Z.
If you put www.freecycle.com in your URL box, you will be taken to the parent organisation webpage.
From there you put your city or town address and country into a small window and click. You will be advised whether there exists a branch in your locality, and how to get in touch.
Now why would I want to do that?
Can I tell you that since joining I have obtained a free computer, a free large workstation and a scanner, among other things.
And I have got rid of some junk from my home without having to pay some person or carrier to remove it.
I did lose my favourite hat though, having left it behind at the place where I got the computer. The lady kindly phoned and told me it was there, but I decided it wasn't worth the petrol to go and retrieve it, nor worth the postage etc.
You see, what freecycle.com is about is recycling things free, no money can be mentioned, not even bartering.
One person offers, others request, one is accepted and goes and picks up the item offered.
The organisition warns you, just as Trademe warns you, that you have to be security conscious regarding your personal details.
There is a good guide page to introduce you to the organisation.
Why am I telling you this, you will compete with me for the goodies?
Because there is the other side of the hill, that you might offer sometime what I want!
Go have a gander!
