Life of a cat - Pt.3 The slaves point of view

This article has been submitted by a GrownUps member. GrownUps accepts no liability for its content and the views and information contained within are not necessarily those of the GrownUps website.

It’s about time we got this story straight. To start with we are not slaves to our cats. Where they got that notion from, we will never know. To think that after all we have done for them that they would go and spread malicious stories about us, deserves a reaction. On top of that, we didn’t give them permission to use our computer. What a cheek!
So lets put paid to all the stories that have been spread about us. Firstly, the daughter, Scally also goes by the name Scallybrat and Ratbag, for reasons that we won’t go into for fear of criminal proceedings. You have to be careful; the cats of today have very smart lawyers. As for Missy, because she is so smart and can get up on the bed by herself, we sometimes call her Girl. This comes about when she does the giant leap and we say “good girl, we knew you could do it”

The fact that we let the cats live with us is purely by coincidence, as when they decided to make our house their home, it was to be for only a short time. We already had a loving cat (which has since departed this world) and as the kittens started to grow, we looked around for some kind people to take care of them. The first two of the three kittens went to great homes. (They probably hold that against us) With two still on our hands, the mother and one female kitten, we kept trying but couldn’t find anywhere suitable. Next thing we knew was that Valentines Day was upon us and being cat lovers, decided to let them stay with us and that is when we gave them the appropriate names. They had no say in selecting the names.

We took them to the vet and had the necessary things done so we wouldn’t be burdened with another lot and they probably hold that against us as well.

Being the great pet owners that we are, we supplied them with all the home comforts, such as beds, food, water and lots of loving. They even have their own litter box, although we don’t know why it is called a litter box as it has ground up clay in it. Maybe it’s because after they use it they scatter the contents on the surrounding floor. Over the years we have found it necessary to return to the vets for many reasons, but one of the worst was when Missy got a urinary infection and as a result had to go on a special diet of dry food. Although very expensive, we didn’t hesitate to continuing to supply the food and to this day, after many thousands of dollars, we have an ongoing supply that both cats consume. From time to time we give them a treat, such as mince or salmon and even let them have a bit of the leftovers from the evening meal, like the gravy or a bit of fish. They don’t have to do anything special for these treats; it’s just us showing our love for them.

Everything we do for the cats is because “we” want to, not because they have given us “the look” or meowed.
The cats don’t have any special powers that make us do things to satisfy them, we do things to satisfy ourselves. It’s like when we have the cats on our knees and stroke the fur, it’s not to give them pleasure, and it’s to give us a sense of well being. After all, it has been said that stroking the fur gives the owner a feeling of relaxation. Well that’s what we believe anyway.

These two cats that think they know everything and think that we are available for their every demand, actually sleep most of the day and apart from that they are eating or going to the toilet. Most of the time they spend inside and on the odd occasion when they do venture out, it is only for a short time as we don’t want anymore dog incidents.
So the message here is, don’t let your cats think they are the boss and we are the slave, because we aren’t.
Scally is at the back door meowing to go out, so I had better let her go and Missy is sitting on the edge of the bed wanting to get down. The things we do for our furry friends.

Remember “We are not slaves” YEAH RIGHT.
