A Little Creature Followed Him...

This beautiful (copied) Poem had no name so I call it God Dog...I hope all those who have lost their loved doggie companions and are hurting will be a little comforted and find some peace in reading these words (not mine though I can feel them) So many have such a wonderful gift with their words and thoughts and I thank them for sharing their gifts with us...The photo (in The Secret Garden) is of our lovely SandyDog who's been gone 3 years now with her mates Sootyfoot and Cameo...who are both very much with us...Thank You God.

When God made the earth and sky, the flowers and the trees, He then made all the animals, and all the birds and bees. And when His work was finished, not one was quite the same, He said, "I'll walk this Earth of mine, and give each one a name." And so He traveled land and sea and everywhere He went, A little creature followed him, until its strength was spent. When all were named upon the earth, and in the sky and sea, the little creature said, "Dear Lord, there's not one left for me." The Father smiled and softly said, "I've left you 'til the end. I've turned my own name back to front, and called you Dog, my friend." --- Author Unknown (but brilliant)

by Kvntoday 17th August 2009 We believe that this is a "Good Story" and worth a read. The story of "Poppy" our much loved and travelled Lilac Burmese. The story started 3 and a half weeks ago when we had visitors drop in for afternoon tea at about 3.30pm and they left at approx 4.30pm. We did not think about Poppy until about 6 pm when we started looking for her as she has a habit of hiding around the house , we looked and looked but no Poppy and by the time we were ready for bed she was still not around but we thought she would turn up during the night or in the morning. Still no Poppy in the morning and we started to worry and Kevin started trekking around the surrounding paddocks to see if she might be caught up some where with her collar or maybe locked in one of the neighbours sheds, but no luck . This searching went on for 3 weeks and we rang all of the local Vets, SPCA's and The Neighbourhood Watch Group but nothing. At that point we thought we would never see her ever again , but on Wednesday this week we were driving down to Upper Hut on business and we got a call from The SPCA in Fielding and they asked if we had a lilac Burmese with a pink collar with a tag that said "Poppy " and our phone numbers. Well you can imagine the excitement , we stopped the car and the lady in Fielding told us that a Farmer had picked her up at Stormy Point just near Hunterville about two days prior and they had her in their care in Fielding. We went to Fielding and picked her up on Thursday and she was in poor condition , very thin with a few small injuries. She also has a broken tail that will have to be amputated as we found out at the Vet on Friday morning where she also had a complete check up and blood tests, they will do the amputation as soon as she gets some condition back. We have now found out how Poppy got to be where she was found. The day our friends left in their 4WD Poppy must have got up underneath somewhere and stayed there when our friends Neil and Jeanette left to go to Taupo and then on to Tauranga. The amazing thing is that Neil and Jeanette went to Palmerston on the way and stayed there for approx 2 hours and then on through Fielding /Cheltenham and then on to Vinegar Hill to SH1 ... It was at an area called Stormy Point just south of Hunterville approx 100km from home, that Poppy must have decided' I have had enough of this' and Neil and Jeanette do now remember hearing a small Thud! and Neil recalls seeing something small and pale on the road, but did not take much notice as it was just on dark so they kept going and that was when Poppy must have fallen, at about 80kph Neil thinks? Poppy miraculously survived and then for over 3 weeks she must have lived on what she could find ,as it was not until Monday of this week that the Farmer trapped her thinking she was a Feral cat but then discovered that she had a collar on with our old vets number and Kevin's Mobile number ( which was very hard to read as it had been chewed), He then thankfully brought her to Fielding SPCA who through a process of elimination found our mobile number . We are so relieved and excited to have her home. We hope to get the blood test results today and she will probably have her OP on Wednesday, she is feeding well and now after 2 days realises that she is back home and Soli (Our Older Burmese) is just over the moon to have her back as he has been so lonely and just about driven us mad. It certainly was a mystery to us how she just disappeared as we live in a private road and we did not think at all that somebody would have stolen her or maybe a Hawk had taken her, and now to have her back is without a doubt a miracle , she is improving by the hour so we are feeding her chicken every two hours and she is drinking well . Kind Regards............. Kevin and Sandra Stent 22 Waipuna Grove Levin RD1 06 3676292 Mob..0274422069
by Maxwell 3rd November 2009 Thankyou MaryLouise for submitting the poem "A Little Creature Followed Him" I have been wanting a copy of this one for a while. It is actually on a video of Tux Wonder Dogs and read by Mark Leishman at the end of the film. It certainly says it all about our four legged mates.
by MaryLouise 23rd February 2010 Poppy's Mum and Dad, So lovely to read about your Poppy's return and healing...Have you read of the 'Smarter than Jack' stories on the SPCA site ?...like your story they are well worth reading and their books make nice gifts as well as helping the animal welfare... you can ask them to send you a story online each week or two...
