Welcome to GrownUps

Chris Toal joins us as a regular contributor. His health and fitness articles will be providing practical solutions for all sorts of everyday and unresponsive conditions.

A “holistic” Deep Tissue Massage therapist with over a decade in clinical practice he says being holistic means focusing on balancing the body’s own systems to achieve the best possible outcomes. Often this is by releasing old trauma and scar tissue then training in new behaviours. He is a Grown Up’s member so more info is in his profile but here’s a quick rundown.

Chris has been a feature writer for the past six years for New Zealand’s number one fitness lifestyle magazine, Fitness Life Magazine. He’s a former tutor at Wellpark College of Natural Therapies, with qualifications in Fascial Kinetics, (Bowen Technique), Lymphatic Drainage, Chinese Reflexology and Aromatherapy.

His companies Wellness at Work and Bodywall have extensive histories of successful treatments with top athletes, including working for Team New Zealand on two Americas Cups, plus multinational corporations and the general public.

Chris’s clinics treat all sorts of unresponsive conditions from Dupuytrens Contracture to OOS, Sciatic pain and Spinal realignments both for Scoliosis and Kyphosis, plus providing assistance for all sorts of hormonal and emotional conditions including, grief and depression. They also recently achieved exceptional results on the popular Downsize Me TV show with their weight loss program.

All work is done on a “no change, no charge” basis so you know the treatments “have” to work and we are delighted to have him and his team joining us.

Chris is in his mid fifties himself so he has a clear understanding of what Grown Ups is all about. We would like to welcome him on board and asked him to give you a bit more background.

An Introduction From Chris

Hi Everyone. First up let me say we don’t “fix” anyone. We remove a few obstacles for you, show you how to look for the causes of the problems and then how to treat  yourself.

Hopefully by working together we can keep our jammed up medical system free of a few more people, help you to stay pain free and happier, and save you some pain and money as well.

For me the journey into natural health started by getting beaten up on a Trans Tasman Yacht race back in 1997. Five days of severe storms left me in a bit of a mess, and Paracetamol was not helping, so it was time to try something different.

Massage sorted it, became a passion, and then an incredibly satisfying and challenging career, a career that has taken me up some of the world’s highest mountains, across oceans and allowed me to work with some astoundingly talented individuals.

Learning how to stay in good health has allowed me not be sore every morning and to do things like taking up Surfing and Snowboarding in the past two years. I certainly enjoy good food and wine but support that with a balanced diet. I’m fitter and in better shape now than I ever was in my twenties but only workout an hour a week, it’s all about working smarter, not harder so there will be more info on that too.

Over the past decade our clinics have helped thousands of people to get back on track. We enjoy doing that but it’s better if we can get you to self treat or even better again if we show you how to avoid your problems in the first place so you don’t need us at all.

All of the features coming up will focus on doing that just, getting and keeping you well and as pain free as possible.

We like to offer a small bonus for those of you Grown Up’s living on the Auckland’s North Shore. If you want to get fit but like me simply don’t have the time, we have just opened a new Bodywall site in Albany, if you contact Angela Holland she will book you in for a ”free Bodywall training session” and show you a whole new fun and very fast way to fitness. You can contact her via the Bodywall website.

I’m delighted to be able to contribute to the team at Grown Ups, ask questions by all means we will try to answer as many as possible. First up we are going to tackle a “Walletectomy” and then treat the damage.

Regards
Chris Toal

by earthangel 10th March 2009 Hi Chris I know what you mean about fitness. I have had about five years of major surgery on both my feet and of course not able to do much I put on heaps of weight but that all changed last July and I can now say with pride that as of a week ago I have lost 30.7kgs I was 105.7kgs and I am now 75kgs I have done this with help from The Healthy Weight Clinic at our doctors here in Katikati and being active and sensible eating have been the key for me. So many of us need people like you so thanks. for being there to help others to better fitness.
by Lorrie 10th March 2009 I will be watching your site with great interest. I have always been physically fit, played lots of sport and generally been very active all my life but suddenly now that I am in my 50's "pain" has set in. So feet, hips, elbows, back, neck - well you name it and I seem to have pain there at some stage or other that I can't shake off completely. Recently it was suggested to me that I should stop my step aerobics and whilst I have for the past couple of weeks taken a rest for my back's sake surely this isn't the end for me? My Dr has also suggested depleting eostrogen levels might be worth looking into but I don't wish to start with HRT if I can help it. So in the meantime lots of stretching and waiting. So as I said earlier I will be watching with interest and so good to have you on board
