Some 'Old Fashioned' Tips
Thank you for taking the time to read this, my first Handyman column for the GrownUps Website, the first I hope in a long association. I thought a good start would be to introduce myself and present my credentials for writing this column that will advise you on how to solve those problems you may have with jobs in and around the home.
Well as you will see from the heading, my name is Chris Bennett. I’m not a builder and I’m not a professional writer, I’m a Home Handyman (or to be more PC a Home Handyperson!) that is to say, someone who is willing to ‘give it a go’ and enjoy doing it myself. I’ve been a home handyman since early childhood when I played alongside my grandfather and father whilst they made and fixed things around the home. In fact you could say DIY was a family tradition that’s been passed down the generations. My other ‘claim to fame’ has been as a Radio Home Handyman on Radio I, 1476 The Point and Radio Pacific or as my dear wife Carol says, “If you did as much as you talk about, all the jobs at home would have been fixed years ago”! During all these phases of my life I have gathered a wealth of information about D.I.Y and now I want to share it with you.
More importantly I really want this column to be a joint effort between us therefore I invite you to send me your questions and queries about the jobs that you are doing, or contemplating doing around the home and I will try to advise you. Simply post your question on the notice board.
The other thing I want to make very clear at this point is that from time to time I will recommend certain products. I do not get paid to do this! Brand names will be mentioned because I have tried the product or service myself and I have found the results to be just what I needed.
Anyway, enough of me. I want you to be involved, if you are not already a Do It Your self person I want to convert you. I want you to believe in yourself, whether you are 7 or 70 years old, you can do it, you can fix it.
