Samoa, Haiti, Pakistan, Queensland, Canterbury - On Their Blackest Days, They Saw Red

The Red Cross, that is. Whether it’s on the shirt of a volunteer, on a carton of relief supplies or on a flag flying above a field hospital, it means one thing – practical and relevant assistance is being delivered in a neutral and impartial manner.

Thank you for your kind ongoing support. It’s allowed us to quickly respond to recent disaster and emergency situations, such as the widespread flooding in Queensland and devastating Canterbury earthquake. It also contributes to our ongoing commitments in locations like war-torn Afghanistan, and to our programmes here at home such as Breakfast in Schools and community transport service.

Once again, we need your generous assistance during our 2011 Annual Appeal to ensure that the most vulnerable communities continue to see red.

Your support is making a difference.

Our international aid workers see it first hand in some of the most hostile environments around the world. As Andrew Cameron, a community health care worker in Georgia says, “There is something challenging but rewarding about going somewhere to help improve the lives of people in poverty and put new systems in place that contribute to make life sustainable for the future.”

And here at home too, we’re making a difference. With 62 schools and over 264,000 breakfasts delivered over the year, our Breakfasts in Schools programme is helping alleviate the hardships experienced by many families.  “Breakfast makes me happy” said one Porirua East primary school student.

Our community transport service provides 200,000 vulnerable and largely elderly New Zealanders with access to local medical facilities. As one Kapiti client explains, “They come right to my door to pick me up, wait at the hospital until I’m done and then take me home again. It does make life much easier.”

Please, give generously during our annual appeal. Your donation does make a difference. Thank you.
