Faux Mosaic - Make Your Own House Number

You will need:
• 17mm external plywood ( about 250mm x 300mm).
• Resene Quick Dry Acrylic primer undercoat.
• Resene test pots in the following colours: Resene Nero; Resene Longitude; Resene Guardsman Red; Resene Paua; Resene Waverider; Resene White Linen.
• Resene Multishield+ (gloss).
• Paintbrushes (including artist’s brush).
• Chalk.
• Damp Cloth.

1. Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry primer to the front, back and edges of the plywood board. Leave to dry for at least one hour.

  2. Apply two coats of Resene Longitude to the front, back and edges of the plywood board. Allow two hours for each coat to dry.

3. Carefully draw the number on to the front of the panel with chalk, as shown.

4. With an artist’s brush and Resene Paua, paint a line of ‘tiles’ around the outer edges of the panel on the inside of the chalk line. Take care not to paint over the chalk.

5. Paint random pieces of ‘mosaic’ in the centre of the number using Resene Waverider, as shown. Leave to dry for two hours and wipe off chalk line with a damp cloth.

6. Using Resene White Linen, paint a smaller line of ‘tiles’ around the outside of the number and outer edges, as

shown, then fill in background with random pieces of ‘mosaic’ using Resene Guardsman Red. Leave to dry for two hours.

7. Paint the sides of the plywood panel with two coats of Resene Nero, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

8. Apply one coat of Resene Multishield+ gloss to the front, back and edges of the plywood board. Leave to dry for at least two hours.
