My son in law and daughter bought our Marton house off us and later proceeded to "renovate it".
Rather than just start and complete a room at a time he started a room, got part of the way through it and wandered off and started another room; Within a short time he had the whole (5 bedroom) house in various stages of 'renovation'. One bedroom is presently at a stage the top wallpaper has been partly stripped so needs finishing off and the room re-papered.
He has done a lot of the 'main work' done on the rooms but the finishing off tasks are all left unfinished.
No stopping at leaving all the bedrooms, laundry, toilet, passage, entrances and bathroom all incomplete, he then left all that and decided the fireplace and chimney in the lounge needed to come out so presto .. off came the Gib, out came the fireplace and chimney, the outside wall boards were replaced where the chimney used to be and then .... left another room with part work done and now in a state of being re-gibed and waiting to be Gib-stopped and completed.
He then wandered off that task and started stripping the exterior walls back to bare wood and then half done the drainage in the section........... to cap it off after about 6 months of semi completed work, he applied for a transfer to another region with his job and got it.
He is now living up north and at the new job and my daughter, who has a moderate spinal injury was left to finish off and prep the house for renting out.
A quick list of the work left to do when he left is: Painting ceilings,Gib-stopping in lounge and front entrance-way , Scocia and skirting to be fitted and painted in several rooms, walls to be painted, tiles in bathroom to be fitted, vinyl to be laid in the laundry, several window sills to be replaced, exterior to be prepped and painted, new door fitted to shed and section drainage to be complete.
Dad to the rescue ... I have come to complete the work. In one week I have got the ceilings painted, skirting in most of the rooms up and painted, started first coat on the bedroom walls, and have about 1/3 of the exterior walls prepped ready to start top coating when the weather improves, this entailed replacement of a few boards and a bit of repair work.
I'm picking about another 3 weeks and should be pretty close to completing the task.
Would have been so much easier for all if one room was started and completed at a time, at least them they could have stopped at the room being worked on and rented the house out.
