If it's been awhile since you stepped inside a Lockwood, you'll notice some changes.

If it’s been awhile since you stepped inside a Lockwood, you’ll notice some changes.  There’s an obvious serenity about natural timber that immediately puts you in a relaxed holiday mood. The blonded timber is very popular, giving a light and airy feeling and making decorating much easier.  But if you’re still not sure about a total timber interior, don’t stress – Lockwood’s “Contempo” series brings flexibility with plain gib walls and ceilings, so you can introduce colour and texture by way of paint and wallpaper in the rooms you choose.  For examples of Contempo, visit the Albany, Rotorua, Christchurch or  Picton show homes.

One of the great things about Lockwoods from an eco-conscious point of view, is that there is no kinder building product for our environment than timber.  All Lockwood’s timber is plantation-grown native pine.  It’s grown specifically for milling and manufacturing, and more is grown to replace it.  So there is a constant cleansing of carbon from the atmosphere – the typical tree absorbing the equivalent of 2 tonnes of carbon dioxide for every cubic metre of growth, while releasing the equivalent of 727kg of oxygen back into the atmosphere.  Not only that, timber requires a whole lot less energy to manufacture than say steel or aluminium does.  The EcoSmart series, designed by eco architect Dave Strachan, has many eco features, such as architectural angles and use of energy-efficient materials that work towards minimising carbon footprints and greenhouse gas emissions.

Another serious benefit in living in a Lockwood is its earthquake and cyclone safety. Lockwoods all over the world, and indeed here in New Zealand recently, have stood up to earthquakes and hurricanes and come through unscathed.  Lockwood walls are not held up by mere nails, they are locked together with a patented locking system and vertical tie rods, making the entire structure incredibly strong.

And something you may not know is that you can have your Lockwood designed specifically to suit your lifestyle. Sure, you can start with one of their many proven and popular plans, changing things to suit, but you can also start your home from scratch, working with their design team to get exactly the home of your dreams.

by gonerunning 8th February 2011 We had a Lockwood "Wanaka" built for us in 1990 when we were transferred to Canterbury. We absolutely loved it, especially the low maintenance aspect, leaving plenty of time for sport and other interests. But living in it was also easy; it was warm in winter and we never had "fogged up" windows. Visitors would often comment how warm our home was. We were very sad to leave it when another job transfer came along.
by joyc002 9th February 2011 My husband and I did not own a Lockwood but we did own an Initial Home which was built from the Lockwood timber in 1988. Our children were raised in this home and it was so comfortable and warm and we loved it. I recommend a home built from this timber especially a Lockwood or Initial home. Our home is recently being rented out and the tenants love it too!!! Thanks
