Tree Huggers & Greenie's......."BLAH"

I have just heard on the 4 o'clock NEWS that a "MAUI DOLPHIN' had ben trapped in a SET NET..

MAF introduced a Ban on Set Netting off the Kaikoura Coast several years ago.

The Ban was not reported in all the local Newspapers so I was oblivious to the Ban when I set an "AMATEUR REGULATION SET NET" over the Xmas period of 2010.

AS A RESULT I WAS PROSECUTED, FINED, HAD MY BOAT CONFISCATED, AND ALL MY CATCH, PLUS PUT THROUGH A LOT OF MENTAL ANGUISH AND EXPENSE.

I was told by the FISHERIES OFFICERS that the Ban was to protect the dolphins, and that if I wanted to set a net it would have to be 4 Km off shore. (Thats where the dolphins live and feed) Oh the brain power of MAF.

What the hell? I have never seen a dolphin in that area in the 20 years that I have fished that spot, and as an underwater diver I would not expect to see one within 50 yards of the shore where the net was set, nor have I.

There was a case of Hectors Dolphins being caught in nets beyond the 4 Km distance from shore but the facts were hidden from the public until somebody with a bit of integrity told the "PRESS".

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR BUREAUCRATS MAKING AMBITIOUS, ILL FOUNDED ASSUMPTIONS AND PUSHING MINISTER'S TO HAVE LEGISLATION PASSED TO JUSTIFY THEIR JOBS.

Reading a Fishermans Magazine a couple of months ago I was suprised to see that the legilation in that (Kaikoura) area is going to be repealed.

I dont expect that I will get my Fine back and I certainly don't expect an apology from MAFish and are in fact as guilty as sin by expecting to be paid by taxpayers for their own incompetence.

by gerald006 3rd February I sympathise with you. There is such confusion with the do's and dont's it is the innocent who is been caught, and rarely those who illegally fish.I don't know much about set nets, but I have seen fisherfolk here(Napier) setting nets at the rivermouth.Obviously they are not aware of the rule either? But your just 'little fry'. The damage-doers are the commercial fishers who 'Bottom Trawl'. They show no mercy to any sea dweller.Indeed one wonders why foreign vessels continually 'pirate' our fish without censure.Perhaps our government doesn't want to upset them.
by Dodgit. 4th February We have lots to be thankful for in NZ but one thing we should have pride in and support with all our efforts is letting us down everyday. Our government and the very large pack of idiots that enforce some of the draconian laws made by people who have lost the power of reason and any common sense they were born with are ruining our way of life. Sure there are more than a few idiots than are so wrapped up in their own greedy/selfish worlds without any consideration for other people, that force laws into being. There is nothing wrong in that but if we have idiots driving the bus we are all on making laws that are unenforceable and ill conceived then we should THINK before we allow those idiots to continue or have our vote to be the driver in the first place.
by AMAZONIAN 11th February Ill conceived laws are the "NORM" in this country at present. I have a great (66 years) empathy with this country but over those years I have seen more and more IMBECILES get elected to Parliment so they can "TAKE THE ADVICE" of some snot snivelling little wanker fresh from 'varsity who has never in his life done anything practicle to benefit anybody on this earth, and in reality has NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECT HE IS MISINFORMING THE POLITICIANS ABOUT. I have a Degree ((Bsc) in Physics) but I wouldn't put my hand up to associate myself with the plebes who crawl and cringe around Parliment Buildings. I have heard it said so many times before; I didn't vote for the "IDIOTS". Well, unfortunately over 50% of you did or the "IMBECILES" wouldn't be there. But while they are we will be subjected to more and more IDIOTIC LAWS and regulations. Amen.....
