It seems as if 2011 was absolutely chocka with good news for my family and friends.
My son, an extremely hard worker, was chosen from more than 200 others for a job where his professional skills will (at last) be recognised. In this environment of unemployment (and he's had more than his fair share of that) he had to have 3 interview and take 5 psychometric tests and passed all with flying colours.
As a result of the job, his salary has increased and he was able to realise a long-held dream - moving to a small apartment in the CBD. The picture is his view. It has taken many years for him to get this far but he's worked and studied and never lost hope. He really deserves this good break and I'm so proud of him.
Then a friend of mine, a refugee who came here with very little education, so that she can neither read nor write - in her own language or in English, decided in her middle age to tackle the problem. It was moving indeed to receive a Christmas card with her name written neatly inside. It brought tears to my eyes.
I've been waiting over 18 months for a hip operation, 12 months just waiting to see if I could even have one! Anyone going through this knows what I'm talking about when I say the pain affects every area of your life and thinking.
But at the end of 2011, I received a notification to see an anaesthetist in January and I'm assuming this means the surgery will not be too far behind.
The prospect of being able to walk, swim or even sleep peacefully again is absolutely wonderful.
So 2012 is looking as if it may well be an even better year than 2011 :)
