Powering Into the Past

Isn’t it great that there’s never any shortage of new passions to get stuck into? These days I’m powerfully drawn to genealogy, heritage, legacy… all those good words that indicate a readiness to get a better grip on the life we’ve all been living for, well, quite some time now!

I’m running a new workshop in August about how to write about your life, and I’d love to have you come along.

Together we’ll write down lively, vivid slices of our far-from-ordinary lives. Yes, you can do it, because the course is designed for people like you are just hitting that ripe and magical age when life is (hooray!) actually starting to make sense!

It’s a two-parter:

1. One day in which you can free up your pen and produce writing that's fresh and real, based on the best raw material of all - the stuff of your memory. Use it to write a personal history or to record and realise how much you've learnt from the peak times of your journey so far.

2. A follow-up half day in which to take stock of your style and skills, and look forward with positive intention to the next stage of your life.

WHEN - 9.30am-4pm Sunday, August 21

PLUS ANOTHER AFTERNOON - 12.30pm-3.30pm, Sunday, August 28

WHERE - Eden Garden, Mt Eden, Auckland, where on August 28 you can also enjoy its annual gorgeous Tulip Festival.

At the first session, you'll learn to write and share some of your stories. The second session is for evaluation. You can bring a piece of writing from the first day - one that, with my help, you've had time to edit or re-do -  so you can see how you've progressed. It'll be a great way to build confidence in continuing your writing journey, and your life's journey.

The price includes a free copy of my new book, Crack Your Life:  How to Tell Your Unique Story - a Writing Guide, worth $25, plus welcome coffee/tea on both days. The excellent Eden Garden Cafe is right on-site for you to purchase lunch.

PRICE  $185 inc gst - or come with a friend and save $15 each.

You can book on my website, www.lindseydawson.com or email me at lindseyoutloud@xtra.co.nz

By the way, participants go into a draw to win a personal coaching session with me following the workshop.

Why is it a good idea to do some writing now about who you are and where you’ve come from? Well, the need to express our own history never goes away. It’s just that mostly we ignore it, and the “what’s-done-is-done” philosophy often serves us well.

But browsing round the web today I came across an American history site, hnn.com, that had this really good message at the top of its home page: “Because the past is in the present, and the future too…”

That says it so well.

* Seen my show yet? I’m hosting, Let’s Talk, screening weekly…NZ’s only current affairs show done by women for women. See it at 8pm Sundays on Stratos (Sky 89) or Freeview (21), repeated 1pm Mondays.
