Hanging Flower Baskets

This article has been submitted by a GrownUps member. GrownUps accepts no liability for its content and the views and information contained within are not necessarily those of the GrownUps website.

I am interested in making a few hanging flower baskets to hang in a verander or by the side of my deck. I have made them before but they don't stay perfect for long and look shabby after a while. Also because they are hard to get to I don't water them enough. Can other Grown Ups give me some pointers please. I am planning to go to the garden centre to buy some extra bits and have the baskets already. I was planning to put some bizzy lizzies in mine as I have seen then outside our local Real Estate office and they would look wonderful with a bit of colour.

by Warrior 24th November 2009 I have found that you need to buy some 'Saturaid' which holds the water longer and keeps the plants wet for longer somehow. Even with this though, in the height of summer I have to water my hanging baskets every day. You need to fertilize them every few weeks too.
by AJ50 29th November 2009 I have also found one of those ornamental self watering thingys that you buy at knick knack shops. I pop one into the basket and water the top and it gradually releases water through wat looks like a pottery base. It helps itf you forget for a few days.
