Mega Cones and MicroCakes - Snowdon Brings Happy Times to Kiwi Kitchens

In the heart of the Waikato, a busy bakery has recently developed a new range of snack-sized cake mixes for Kiwi kitchens.  The bakery is Snowdon Ltd, but they’re not any ordinary bakery as you might expect.

For over 20 years, Snowdon has produced most of the ice-cream cones loved by New Zealanders.  Enjoying an ice-cream cone is such an integral part of growing up in New Zealand, so you can understand Snowdon’s pride in developing yet another range of products that add enjoyment to another important aspect of a happy Kiwi family life … home baking.

MicroCakes are Snowdon’s new range of snack-size cake mixes that are now available in supermarket baking aisles, but what is a MicroCake?

A MicroCake is a quick, fun and easy way to make a delicious snack-sized cake at home, and they are more than just a pack of powder.  MicroCakes are a ‘microwave cake mix set’ and come complete with cake mix, icing mix, a microwaveable bowl (great to keep and reuse!) and even the measuring cup!

Some cake mixes in the supermarkets are simply too big for some families.  When 4 slices of cake is more suitable for you than 10 or 12 slices, then MicroCakes are perfect.  You’ll love not only the range of flavours, but the quality of those flavours too; Chocolate Cake with premium cocoa, Coffee Cake with real coffee, and Spice Cake made with a delightful blend of aromatic and delicious spices.  There are no added artificial flavours, colours or preservatives in MicroCakes.

Here’s how easy it is to make a MicroCake:

1. Add the cake mix and an egg into the MicroBowl, then use the provided measuring cup to add 30ml of water and 30mls of vegetable oil.

2. Mix.  Give it a good vigorous stir!  This is where we want the natural emulsifiers in the egg to be activated to ensure a good strong cake.

3. Pop it in the middle of your microwave uncovered for just 1 minute and 50 seconds.

Let the cake rest for 30 seconds and flip it out onto a serving plate, then give the bowl a quick rinse so we can use it for the icing (mix together the icing mix, a teaspoon of soft butter and drops of water until it’s the right consistency).

Once the cake has cooled, spread the icing over it and you’ll have a cake that you can be proud to serve to any guests (MicroCakes are great to keep in the pantry for unexpected visits!).  Of course, they’re great to spoil yourself with too!

Because of the bowl shape, MicroCakes are also great fun to decorate with children.  Ladybugs, beehives and doll cakes (pop a doll in the top so the cake becomes the skirt) are just a few examples of ways to have fun decorating MicroCakes with children and grandchildren.

MicroCakes are in the supermarket Baking Aisle. You’ll love them!
