Villa Maria Estate

The Villa Maria story is one of absolute passion. Still 100% New Zealand and family owned, Villa Maria Estate was founded in 1961 by Sir George Fistonich. Through his dedication to quality, George has led the company to become one of New Zealand's leading privately owned wineries, exporting to more than 50 countries worldwide.

Sir George Fistonich's entrepreneurial spirit has seen Villa Maria push the boundaries in every aspect of winemaking. For example, in 2003, Villa Maria became the first major winery to declare itself a 'cork-free' zone and convert fully to screw caps.

In the early days, Villa Maria made a commitment to producing wines of uncompromising quality, resulting in the title ‘New Zealand's most awarded winery for over 30 years’. At the recent Royal Easter Show Wine Awards 2011, Villa Maria received the title ‘Champion Wine of the Show’ for its Reserve Syrah 2009. In addition, Villa Maria received three trophies, 17 gold medals, and a joint Winemaker of the Year award was given to Villa Maria Estate’s Group Winemaker Alastair Maling MW and Senior Auckland Winemaker Nick Picone.

It was also announced that Sir George Fistonich has been inducted to the New Zealand Wine Hall of Fame for services to the wine industry.

Villa Maria has received many awards from the experts over the last 30 years but they would like to know what you think of their wine!

Try any Villa Maria wine and tell them what you think at www.villamaria.co.nz/haveyoursay to be in to win a case of that wine. You can also read what other people think on the blog. Every week three winners are selected and contacted by phone.

Promotion runs till 1 May 2011.

Terms & conditions apply, please see villamaria.co.nz/haveyoursay
