I thought I was having an out of body experience

This article has been submitted by a GrownUps member. GrownUps accepts no liability for its content and the views and information contained within are not necessarily those of the GrownUps website.

It was August and as cold, wet and miserable as ever. I had contracted influenza and now I had bronchitis. I was asleep just after 9pm. Something woke me and I could see an eerie light wavering in the hall. Thinking it was an out of body experience I quickly closed my eyes. Suddenly my bedroom light went on and into the room came an ambulance driver with his partner, a male and female police constable and a security guard.

I was in denial and closed my eyes thinking I was imagining this, when a hand touched my wrist and a voice said, "your alarm is beeping."

I sat up and said "Well, I never pressed it".The security Guard then told me they had to break a window to gain entry. I asked him why as my keys were hidden outside. Off he went to look. The ambulance crew went on their way with the Guard following. The police had already phoned a glazier to fix the window so I got up and went down with the constables to await his arrival, which was rather prompt.

It was pouring with rain but the glass was replaced quickly and the police took their leave. I sat there bemused wondering how all this had come to pass. I never consciously pressed the alarm. Looking at the clock I saw it was 9.50pm, barely 50 minutes since I went bed yet all this happened in that short time, and what a wonderful bunch of people out there who come to our rescue when needed.

by Fern 3rd October 2009 Blimey Joybel, what an experience. It's wonderful to know the 'system' works so well though eh. You can go to bed at night secure in the knowledge that if you ever have to press that button, help will come running. Hopefully that won't be necessary but I'm sure it'll make you sleep easier.
