Once I walked on the seashore,
let sand trickle thru my fingers,
and if I can walk there no more, yet still the memory lingers...
once there were seashells,fragile, bright,
colours soft and pure,
if I shut my eyes tight,
I can see them still, I'm sure.......
once the salty tang of the sea,
and the keening of the birds,
met the hiss of the wavelets, racing to me,
where the froth of the waves was like curds...
once there were rock pools,
limpid and clear,
starfish, seaweed and stones,
still I may hold their memory dear,
in my heart and my mind and my bones...
once the sea was my loadstone,
my solace, my reason for being,
today it is merely within me,
but ...
once more , in my mind, I am seeing,
the sea...
