Grandmother, Grandmother stood on a chair,
Then all of a sudden the chair wasn't there.
Oh! dearie me! alas and alack!
There was poor grandmother flat on her back.
She quietly lay there a moment or two,
Considering what was the best thing to do.
Nothing was hurting and nothing was marred,
But she felt as though she had sat down very hard.
She carefully raised up one leg from the floor,
And to her relief it was not very sore;
The second one too, was as good as the other;
So "Thanks be to God," said that grandmother.
She rolled on her tummy, then on to her knees,
From which low position she stood up with ease.
She counted her blessings and said, "I declare,
That never again will I stand on a chair.
