Well we weren't really earwigging we actually just sat down to have some breakfast after flying from Gisborne to Wellington. A group of us were travelling over to the Chatham Islands to a Family Re-union and on the table behing us a group of Scottish students were discussing their adventures in the Wairarapa.
One of them recalled a trip they had taken on a mini bus to find clues to a treasure their tutor had hidden on the beach, and so they had to find a shortcut route to this beach to beat all the other students. Anyway, the story goes they had been travelling down this dirt back road and came to a dead end and a locked gate, the good thing was the beach they wanted to get to was just through the gate and a short walk through the paddock. One of the students got out and raced to open the gate when he saw a sign, he read it and ran back to the bus and told the rest of them they couldn't get passed because they were on Maori Land and it belonged to some bloke called Tame Kote in a strong scottish accent mind, so another student went to have a look and he came back laughing and said "Oxh man it dunna say Tame Kote it says "Keep Out Tame Goats".
