Wee girls, wee boys and tall time
by the way
your smile lit up
you've forgotten your sorrow
of the times
when you suffered
the upsets and the trials
of being a neighbour
when the odds
in numbers were higher
just one you were
the others to lean on
though were they there
you survived though
and into your life
two fairies flew
and I met You
and You were sent
over the road with me
to be clever and cute
and distract me with chat
so they could reign anew
your eyes were beguiling
twas your Soul though
that found me from your eyes
as I recognised a twin
on the shelf in my heart
I wished you two child play
though the way was not paved
and the stay was too shy
I'd had wished the lost children
to share who had grown up alone
I was confused
as to why there was netting
between us and not us getting
all of us together to share
all we all did, was stare
and then we were grabbed
by those much older
who tied us in knots
leaving us pots, flakes in our dots
vapourising our chariot in confusion instead
arose we from the battle
victorious from death
and sought the moses crib again
to mend the broken head
round the clock I nursed and bled

I visted with snippets and promises
and bandaided the family anew
from the battles
and the playground bruises
I wondered whether this could be true is.
and hoped that like
my families all up
we'd sup a light spirt
something bright, and discuss
the merits of rising bread
the hawkes, the grumps
gleefully grabbed
putting my love to the side
and put chewing gum
to plug Up
the gaping and wounded heart
whats the point
of befriending new friends
if my wee big one
was trained mean without me
why swivel the video firer
to shoot off airwave daggers
when your impish laughter
would just melt such barbs away
such old fashion zeal would heal
his child aching soul like yours
from being an only lonely
sandwhiched between
neighbouring shenigens
that we all have just watched
while other children
seemed unpersecuted
whilst he had befriended
what seemed quite a load
leaving smiles on dials from the road
though there was when one, Helen and Claire
and Keezia at two,
with Bede, Morag and Flora when turning three
remember the time Guisseppi tried
to swipe the candle from the cake
And Antonio, noticed Eliza, gosh
and at Tessa's jolly birthday dash,
you celebrated in style
it was we who stopped Spot the Dog
from running clean away,
We bought him home to play
When Aristar, and he
and You and Me
donned birthday hats
so that we could sing
Aristar, such a happy song
and all he could do
was pack a sad
because you had your arm around
Spot the Dog
Instead of the birthday boy
And please remember
the Pink Panther
who graced the windows
of Piano Traders Music Shop
When out stolling
along to have a gaze
and later on, borrowed we
the picture who put
footprints in art
on your invitation
when after you had turned five
so our friends could find home
laugh in celebration with us
in our garden party
tables and chairs
plastic fantastic
borrowed from neighbour Ian
from his restaurant
near Alexandra Park
and Uncle Raymond
planted in the kitchen
making delicious savoury squares
and You in the garden
finding presents
from the wrapping
and the piles of debri
of ribbons and bows
growing higher with the moment
me scooping up toothpicks in hundreds
They had held up your castle cake
struggled I, so much to make
Your grin finally widening
your pasty wee face
glowing with delight
Such a wonderful sight
and me sometimes happily
searching the house
gathering smiles and sunbeams
to keep us warm
through the winter
to the next clear season
being prepared regards
the next
festive din.
