The good thing is that the Grandchildren understand that 'worms don't eat plastic'!
If you haven't tried it already get them to dig 3 holes in the garden. To bury a ball of plastic lunchwrap and plastic packaging in one hole; bury paper lunchwrap and paper packaging in another hole; and in the third to bury food scraps. Put a marker on each hole so you know what went where and leave it all alone for 3 months. You can 'make a date' on the calendar to the big "dig up"!
This is one easy and effective way for the Grandchildren and indeed, the whole family to realise that not everything decomposes and it's not good for the planet to have a 'whole load of rubbish'.
